Al on Senator Paul Wellstone's Birthday

Excerpt: Today, July 21, would have been Paul Wellstone’s 62nd birthday. Paul was my favorite senator, my political hero, and my friend.

Paul once said, “The future belongs to those who are passionate and work hard.” That’s why I’ve spent so much time here in Minnesota and around the country campaigning on behalf of progressive candidates who share Paul’s vision of an America with opportunity for all, a just and fair society, and a government that puts the common interest above special interests.

And that’s why I started Midwest Values PAC last year. So far, we’ve given away hundreds of thousands of dollars to national candidates like Jon Tester in Montana and Claire McCaskill in Missouri; to Minnesota Democrats like Amy Klobuchar, Tim Walz, and Patty Wetterling; and to progressive organizations fighting for universal health care, early childhood education, and reproductive rights.

I’m writing to announce that today, on Paul’s birthday, Midwest Values PAC will be making a contribution of $25,000 to Wellstone Action, the group founded by Paul and Sheila Wellstone’s sons after the plane crash.
