Demand an Investigation of the Missing $8.8 Billion in Iraq
Last year, it was found that the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq lost $8.8 billion in cash due to “severe inefficiencies” and “poor management.” Yet the Republican Congress conducted no investigation of why this happened, or where the money went.
Please sign our petition demanding an investigation of the missing $8.8 billion in Coalition Provisional Authority funds in Iraq. Your support will pressure Congress to conduct oversight hearings on the Bush administration’s mismanagement of the Iraq reconstruction.

As a citizen I demand to know where the missing 8.8Bil for CPA in Iraq went. We must have congressional oversight hearings; I no longer trust the Bush Admin.

This administration has mismanaged everything it has touched since taking office. We must demand an investigation. Thank you , Mr. Franken; for all that you do. Laura Tas Richmond MI

$8.8 billion would go a long way in this country to feed and shelter those without. Enough!

If the missing $8.8 billion put into the Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority is not recovered, who pays…legislators, corporations, the rich or the working or poor Americans.

Are country is being governed by crooks! Let’s not let them get away with this!
— Arnie Kaplan Feb 17, 08:27 PM #
I have my fingers crossed that the funds turn up equally distributed in classrooms throughout our nation’s public schools. No wonder they can’t “account” for 8.8 billion dollars, we can’t even produce poll workers here authorized to count election ballots.
— Esther Murphy Feb 18, 02:42 PM #
I keep telling people I know-the federal government is the most mismanaged institution I know!
8.8 billion dollars missing?! And you know who has to pay for that? Hard working people like myself who actually have to work to survive this horrendous economy!

It is time to take back our country from these thieves. It is our right to live to the highest values. These people do not represent me or what I know this country stands for.

They don’t investigate anything that they did on purpose.

A person in need has to fill out a 15 page form, provide documents, and all forms of ID just to get inadequate health care. The gov’t “loses” $8.8 Billion and nobody investigates it?!?!?

Mr. Franken,
Stop trying to make my husband look bad. He’s a good husband and a good father, and he knows how to clear tumble weeds off a ranch better than anyone. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. P.S. Mr. Cheney didn’t mean to shoot anyone and he hasn’t done anything else wrong so be nice to him too.

I demand a investigation of where all the 8.8 billion of hard earned american cash went,Mr.Bush.

I’m sure glad the “liberal media” isn’t going to let this one go by the boards!
— James Nunn, M.D. Mar 24, 07:38 PM #
The readers of this blog have misread. The 9 billion is actually Iraqi money from U.N. scandal proceeds of siezed oil revenues. The money was reportedly spent on “salaries, operating and capital expenditures, and reconstruction projects between October 2003 and June 2004,” but just accounted for incorrectly. This leads me to believe that the Iraq accounting standards aren’t quite up to par, and rightly so. Please don’t believe, incorectly, that this directly involves U.S. tax revenues or our troops. Thank you.
— Jesse J. Miller Apr 5, 12:27 PM #
One would think that the President—with his MBA degree—should at the very least insist that Congress find out who is accountable for such large sums of money that are ‘missing’. But perhaps he also holds a certificate in Slight of Hand from Clown School, which overrides his Harvard edumacation.

Is the missing $8.8 billion by the CPA in Iraq just another example of graft in our government. Do an investigation and find out who’s responsible and punish the real guilty one’s.

Although the Bush administration has lied our country into a war, spent our great great grandchildren into debt besmirched the name ” United States Of America” with their lies and arrrogance, these people came from what was once a party of reasonable members. Are all the GOP members of the House and Senate so in fear of these hidebound idealogues, that they refuse to do their duty of oversite?
INVESTIGATE NOW

Hello
Can someone that is serious tell me why those on the left never never seem to realize that it is the ‘’insurgents’’ that are spoiling the results of the success of the USA. If the insurgents would quit their murderous ways they could behave like adults and help our troops to rebuild the country.
I really really believe those of you on the left do NOT want the US to have success in Iraq, you just hate bush hate bush hate bush

I sure can June. If you walk about and find the dumbest looking and acting person that calls themselves “liberal” and ask them that question, they won’t know. You asked a leftist the question, they didn’t know, therefore all left wingers are idiots. Now I ask you a question June, why do those on the right not understand if they hadn’t put their nose where it didn’t belong, we wouldn’t have thousands of dead americans killed by “insurgents”. Think about it.
— Johnathan Apr 29, 03:21 PM #
Around every corner, every nook and cranny, this administration has failed the american people. Is it time for ALL americans to have a national strike?
— Michael Phelps May 2, 03:48 PM #
June, even liberals realize the insurgents are the most revolting of all people. They don’t, however, realize the difficulty of war. Can wars be judged on the number of casualties and cost? Absolutely not, if that was the case, this war would be the most successful in history!
We have liberated Iraq and Afghanistan from deplorable regimes, and left democracy in our wake. Our troops are helping the citizens of these nations (www.centcom.mil) daily, god bless them. These troops are capable adults who voluntarily and bravely serve our nation in a march towards a new Iraq. Unfortunately, many liberals are not along for the ride.
To those of you who yearn for peace: ask yourself, what is peace? If in your feeble mind you define peace as turning a blind eye to an Iraqi population in response to Al-Quaida’s defiance, shame on you. That is not peace, that is cowardice. Peace comes with change and cooperation, and we won’t achieve that until we can stand with Iraq.
— Jesse May 7, 08:13 AM #
No investigation is required. It is in the cash register in the lobby of Haliburton. Just go there, buy a hat or T-shirt, and when the cashier gives you change, you’ll see that her extra deep hundred-dollar-bill drawer is stuffed like the crust on a Stuft-Crust Pizza. Take some if you’d like. They generally don’t mind.
— Tom Hughes May 12, 03:04 PM #
Congress owes the American people an explanation of how and why the funds intended to restore Iraq were so dismally managed, and who is accountable.
— Adrienne Coe May 12, 03:59 PM #
It never ceases to amaze me whenever I come across the “views” of someone so completely hoodwinked by the Bush administration. Are Americans really so gullible? For starters-Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Okay? Next: in that region of the world, conflict & tribalism have been the order of the day for over 3,000 years-the Persians & the Arabs have been going at it for thousands of years and they are still going at it, only now the Persians are called Sunni and the Arabs are called Shiite…they are the same folks.
No matter what you have seen on television or read on the internet, we have NOT brought democracy to Iraq! That’s a no-go…as in “it ain’t gonna happen”. Please do not reveal your naïveté by saying something about the so-called elections-it hasn’t worked & it will not work…in a nutshell-the elections were put on for our benefit. Nothing substantial will change as a result of them. They were a sham-as has been this whole War on Terror.
A great many Americans-far too many-are of the opinion that 9/11 was America’s darkest day. It was awful, no doubt…a very very sad day, indeed—many see that day as the beginning of the WOT-I view that day as the day corporatism finally got a lethal stranglehold on the United States of America.
Our brave troops are being maimed and dying in some forsaken, hostile land because of some truly evil bastards that need to satisfy their diabolicle greed & lust for power.
This administration has been preying on our fear since 9/12-and if anyone dare question their motives, they be branded as anti-American/pro-Terrorist. That’s truly adsurd and it’s also the oldest trick in the book, boys & girls—and it never ceases to amaze me how easily this bunch of liars & crooks are usurping our rights & freedoms….and breaking any law that gets in their way to do it!
Come on, people!!!
I’ll take freedom over security any day of the week—-if it came to that.
After 9/11, we have been living in fear of a bogeyman that is nebulous, at best. I’ve not had any terrorists jump out of the bushes late at night and try to kill me—and I know of no one that has—at least not in this country—you know, the one we live in?
Like FDR said-”The only thing we to fear is fear itself.”

Congress found the time and money to investigate oral sex in the oval office but not 8.8 billion in missing funds? That should tell people where republican priorities are!
— David Mitchell May 16, 02:24 PM #
The current Congress is the most corrupt Congress this country has seen in over half a century. Although they may not even realize it, they take their ethical cue from the Executive branch…and we all know what happens when you look to a bunch of crooks and liars for guidance.
— William Lever May 19, 10:16 AM #
Imagine the progress that might have been made with an 8.8 billion dollar subsidy of alternative energy research!
— Annette Dixon May 19, 01:25 PM #
I don’t have $8 to play fast and loose with, much less 8.8 billion. We’ve got to get back to caring about people, providing a safe world for and educating our children, and respecting one another, not attacking and destroying one another.
— Rev. Jennifer Hornbuckle May 20, 06:09 PM #
I want to know where it went or hold those who were in charge of that money accountable… if I misplaced $20 at a cash register I would be held accountable
— Martin Barbosa May 24, 06:42 PM #
Our congress will raid a congressman’s files, why won’t they raid the records of those responsible for illegally pocketing 8.8 million U.S. dollars? It sickens me to hear the news everyday about the corruption in not only our Federal government but also in our State government. When and how did our country end up producing such thieving crooks? It has become so bad, we can’t even feel good about voting for any politician – the word politician, in my book, has become a dirty word – all because of this generation of crooks in our government and even in our corporate businesses – Some kind of “examples” for our kids to follow and look up to becoming “just like them!”
— Darlene Lolley May 28, 03:43 PM #
Isn’t it time we stopped suppporting lies, theives, and Halliburon and supporting our own democratic Republic. We don’t have to even raise taxes – just stop alietating friends, creating enemies, supporting mass murder, unjust wars, miappropropriating of Americans tax monies, and running self destructive twin deficits. Does anyone there have a brain? Commitment to fundamental American values of decency, integrity, democracy?
— Larry Mallet May 30, 02:09 PM #
This was the latest line on my Protowall block list. Packet from “Halliburton Company” ( 34.168.1.34 ) rejected. [protocol: UDP – src: 2047 / dst: 1026] Be afraid! Be very afraid! Patriot Act or 3rd Riech? Gee I hope Jeb does run someday, then maybe Billy.
— Tom Jun 8, 12:32 AM #
I would very much like an investigation of Haliburton and the “missing” $8.8 Bil. Do I actually think it could happen? With this Congress, no. Someone previously said that the money didn’t come from the U.S. That’s not the point. Haliburton received a no bid contract to do a job. They didn’t do the job and can’t remember what they did with all that money. If you or I renigged on a contract and kept the money, you can bet you ass we’d be investigated.
The Righties like to babble about protecting freedom and democracy and making the world democratic. (reminds me of the English colonial period, making the whole world English. We can thank them for the mess in the Middle East after WW I). But I digress. I heard all the same rhetoric during Vietnam: our country right or wrong, support for troops = support for the war, If you don’t support the war you were a commie and hated “freedom’, defeating a tiny Southeast Asian country will make the whole world and America safer from the evil communists. And of course, that all worked out so well. (footnote: that war was also started with a falsehood)
I have that same hopeless, helpless feeling I had back then. This government can do whatever it pleases and not be held accountable. And there are still citizens that never read a newspaper, never question, who will believe every lie. — Barbara Patai Jun 9, 02:12 AM #
Dear Al, It should not be too hard to figure out where the 8.8 billion dollars went. U.S. taxpayers to Halliburton to Dick Cheney. This is the most corrupt Administration this country has ever experienced. We do need an investigation but who can do it. Our Justice Department is as corrupt as George II and Dickie. Maybe we can interest Aruba to do the work. They have already proven that justice works in favor of the criminal!!!
