Mary Jo Kilroy. Ohio 15th House District. Help us oust the 4th most powerful member of the House- Debra Pryce

Where is John Hall on your list?? He is running for Congress in NY State. You know…John Hall. As in the band Orleans. As in the man behind the “No Nukes” concert with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, James Taylor and others. He just won his primary and needs your help!!
— Jay Schlossberg Sep 17, 10:55 AM #
What about Nancy Boyda in KS-2? We have GOT to get Ryun out of there, and she’s polling in the lead!
— Jason Croucher Sep 17, 11:39 AM #
Coleen Rowley, running in MN-2, has the strong and vocal support of Rep. John Murtha – help her oust Republican John Kline!
— Vicki Wright Sep 17, 12:43 PM #
Please add John Kagen (D-WI) to your MVP list! I can’t vote for him because I am not in his district but I want to help. The congressional seat he wins, vacated by Mark Green® could help tip the scales of justice in DC (not to mention the house seat count).

Is there a single politician who is willing to honestly discuss poverty—-including the need for that so-scary word, “welfare” (a.k.a., social insurance)? Since welfare was repealed by the Clinton administration,
we—-as rich as the US is—-now has some of the worst levels of poverty in the industrialized world. We have one of the highest rates of homelessness; most of these are families with children. A large (and growing) percentage are veterans. As people making a living wage are “laid off”, they are routinely replaced by “workfare labor” at a fraction of the wages.
We have fallen far behind other modern nations in our treatment of the poor, in affordable housing, certainly in health care. With no social safety net, losing a job can mean losing everything, including your children (“failure to adequately provide”, according to DHS and CPS). Poverty can be a complex issue, and the government’s only response—- “get a job”—- doesn’t solve the problems or save lives. Yet everyone seems afraid to even discuss the bottom line:welfare is essential in a modern, even marginally decent nation.

I made a mistake. Oh, don’t be misled or hopeful, this is not “Dubya.” My post RE: John Kagen (D-WI) for MVP is wrong. His name is Steve Kagen! He is running against John Gard, a lifelong republican and career politician. I put the two names together so my sincerest apologies go out to Dr. Kagen, his family and friends.
On a seperate issue RE: DH Fabian’s post. Your effort to move dicussion on poverty is admirable and reminds me of a qoute that goes something like “It is very fashionable to talk about the poor but unfashionable to talk with them.” Mother Theresa. Perhaps we all would benefit by reflecting on the needs of those less advantaged by being with them and doing what we can to help. I do agree that the poverty issue is complex and there are no easy answers. To be able to “get a job” there must be one to get!

Mi. Unemployment is OVER 7%. (That’s just the ones who are still on the books.) 322,000 NEW UI claims just this week nationally. People here in Mi. are at records for home forclosures. The huge corporations are leaving and cutting workforces monthly. Ford & GM we know about. Chrysler is next. Thanks DR. “Z” !!!!
What’s so bad about the dismantling of the middle classes by the conservative neo-fascists with corporations in their back pockets, is that when you DO find a job that is at least somewhat over the poverty levels, they hire you “at will”. As if living and owning a home and having a family here in Middle Mi. isn’t stressfull enough, working in the construction or manufacturing trades, and NOTHING is certain. And I think that’s the way these corporations like it. A large, always available, stressed to the max, hiring pool. That way they don’t have to offer any types of fringe benefits or perks (like a decent wage to survive) to attract workers. It all fits the Right Wing agenda. And that is the dismantling of the Middle class Unions and working families.
Thanks, Al and all of your people with MVP. I only wish we people stuck here and forgotten by the current conservative regime, could have more expendable cash to donate to your organization, and TIME to volunteer and see if we can’t REVERSE this countries direction! It’s tough! I wish I knew of better ways to motivate the people of Ohio, or Tenn. and other states, to just THROW THE BASTARDS OUT!!! We CAN make a difference! Then; in ‘08, we take it all back, and spend the next eight years after correcting the damage done!

I’m fighting for Jim Brandt for
congress – news today that Rorabacher’s aide was arrested as pedophile – may help, but Orange County, CA is so red- but I’m helping others, too. Called for MoveOn for Ned Lamont & I write the papers
Sorry, not enough $-but my
time & energy. Luv ya, Al

I ask that you add Peter Goldmark to your MVP list and support him. He is running for Congress in Washington’s 5th district against a first term republican. This is eastern WA which tends to be pretty conservative, but Peter has a good chance to win. He is a farmer with a PhD in microbiology. Any support will be appreciated.
Jim Barron

thank you for adding Braley. His direction is needed in Eastern Iowa. The nrcc is pouring money in for the election of another rubberstamp and they need to be stopped!!!
— Matthew Kurylo Oct 11, 06:58 PM #
Please add Gabrielle Giffords D-AZ to your list. She is intelligent, worldly and eloquent. John Kyle R-AZ who is retiring from that seat, refused to endorse Randy Graff who is the Republican canidate.

Al:
How can we get Air America back on the air in Dallas/Fort Worth? Also, when do you plan to run for the U.S. Senate. You will have my complete support. You are doing amazing work for our country. Keep it up.
— Bruce Wilkinson Oct 16, 11:03 PM #
Dave Patlak is running against Iliana Ros-Lehtinen the rubber stamping Rupublican incumbent in Florida’s 18th District. Dave is a Coast Guard Veteran & supports Port Security, reduced health care costs, increasing the minumum wage, negotiating Medicare drug prices, getting our troops out of the Iraqi Civil War, increased Solar and Biodiesel use, and will reflect our democratic values in Washington if elected. He should be on your list!

Al,
Where is your support for Wendy Wilde in MN-3? She is a pioneer progressive talker in Minnesota with a heart of gold. Tonight she debated Ramstad on TV. It was like a bug being hit by a semi! Ramstad is almost as inarticulate as Dubya! Compared to Wendy, who did a GREAT job on the issues, Ramstad looked like a bumbling boob. Please give her a hand from your PAC, and maybe even find time for a fund raising home party. She deserves it! — Ken Luke Oct 20, 11:07 PM #
Al,
Thanks for your support of Mike Germain for Minnesota State Senate! Your assistance is truly appreciated! One more stuffed-suit, phony “moderate” is in our sites. http://www.votemikegermain.com/
— Mark Anderson Oct 26, 11:44 AM #
Al,
Thank you for your leadership in helping Tim Walz win! I was feeling very uncomfortable in this “red” part of the state after growing up on the Iron Range.
